Mercedes-Benz to accept liability for accidents when Automated Driving System engaged

The Mercedes-Benz 'Drive Pilot' system will enable drivers to remove their hands from the wheel and let the car take control

Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will accept legal responsibility for collisions that occur in cars fitted with an ‘L3’ Automated Lane Keeping System, when directly caused by a fault with its technology but not when the driver has "failed to comply with their duty of care".

As a non-member of the EU, the United Kingdom will need to implement its own law for type approval and update the vehicle safety regulations.
